Marrakesh, a right old mix!
Well last night I got my head down in a hot but comfortable room in Hotel Afrique. This place is just off the Djama el Fna square, a very busy space for tourists and businesses alike and provides a convenient entrance to the old Medina.
i had some paperwork to sort out today and with the help of my new friend Abdul, I found the right place to be and got everything sorted.
After all that excitement I decided to have a lie down and check out the maps for tomorrow’s departure. I chose my route and ventured out into the town.
you wouldn’t believe the mix of cultures here from Maybach drivers to Syrian refugees begging on the street what a huge contrast and they all exist in the same space too.
walking around the huge square you are accosted by all manner of commercial enterprise from food sellers, monkey bearers and snake charmers all within a few steps. I recorded a video blog which will see the light of day soon but was accosted by people who thought I was filming them, they charge for that! So it took a few takes to achieve the end goal.
After a day off in yet another city, I’m ready for the road again, I plan to head for Zagora which is a long days ride through some amazing countryside and down deep into the desert again close to the Algerian border.
I expect a heavier military presence as before but only time will tell. So I’m up for an early night and hope to get on the road in good time tomorrow morning.
